AI and the impossibility of learning or understanding language

Tuesday 4 November, 2025 – Tuesday 4 November, 2025
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Online

Part of the School of Education Research Seminar Series 2025-26.

About the seminar

Can Artificial Intelligence help us learn, specifically, help us learn language? Humans can help us, so why not artificial intelligence systems modelled on human intelligence?

Professor Traxler takes apart language, intelligence, and some of the things we try to make them do for us, suggesting that learning language is pretty daunting.
