About the seminar

In this seminar, Dr Kate Brooks presents themes from her recent book, Critical Histories in Care and Education and draws parallels with her current work with young care leavers. Kate explores how C19th media furores about workhouse girls resonate with current debates concerning asylum-seeking young people.

About the speaker

Dr Kate Brooks is a Visiting Research Fellow at BSU.  She has taught courses on education history & heritage and attachment and trauma aware education, advocating for a relational approach. She is currently working on a five-year heritage project with 1625ip, a Bristol charity working with young care leavers and young people experiencing homelessness.
