Locksbrook Unlocked:

Making, Thinking and Doing Together

We know engagement with the arts has a positive effect on the lives of individuals, improving their skills, wellbeing, and health.  It also enriches the communities we live in.

During the Degree Shows, Locksbrook opens its doors to the public and becomes a more porous and accessible resource for all. It facilitates connections with those beyond the walls of the institution, and builds confidence that artists, designers and makers contribute not only through the objects they make but through the questions they ask and the way they see, translate and interact with the world around them.

This year, we're taking it one step further by hosting a week of talks, events and short courses alongside the exhibition. Our introductory short courses offer the chance to gain new skills while utilising Locksbrook's brilliant workshops.

Meet the designers

This year's vibrant visuals were designed by three of our final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design students: Alfie MaltbyCallum Hill and Emily Hatherall.

Here's what they had to say about their designs:

"We wanted a graphic that communicated the essence of Locksbrook, whilst keeping the focus on the courses that will be exhibiting work within the show, therefore we began this project with a thorough investigation into the visuals of the campus.

"This approach took us to the floor plans, which we found was a successful motif. We designed a versatile system which can be translated into a variety of formats, bringing it back to the theme of “Locksbrook Unlocked”.

"We paired these motifs with a cohesive typographic system which needed to be functional and dynamic, whilst speaking in the tone of Locksbrook."

Will we see you there?

Unless you're attending a specific event or participating in one of our short courses, there's no need to book tickets for our Degree Shows. If you have any questions prior to your arrival, please email: degreeshows@bathspa.ac.uk.
