Fashion Photography Graduate captures global success
Friday, 30 May, 2025BSU Alumna, Becky Crichton, discusses her success after graduating with a degree in Fashion Photography in 2024.
Throughout her studies, Becky was recognised as a strong creative force. Being part of the first cohort of BA Fashion Photography students at BSU, Becky made her mark, and in her final year she was shortlisted for the Fashion Photography award as part of Graduate Fashion Week. She completed her degree with a magazine portfolio, called ‘Muliebrity’ which highlights femininity, womanhood and dynamism. Her unique background as a certified dancer set her apart in the world of photography, as she understands how to capture fluidity and movement to create dynamic shots.
Right out of university, Becky dove headfirst into every opportunity that came her way. She had the chance to work alongside top Photographers like Rankin Creative Director, Paul Woodman, and with iconic luxury brands such as Rolls Royce and Mini, as well as collaborating with local Bristol artists on creative album cover projects.
Always eager to explore new horizons, Becky was presented with the opportunity to move to Dubai, a city bursting with creative energy and opportunities. There, she landed a role as a PR Junior account executive at Gambit PR & Communications, where she worked with high profile clients like Essilor Luxottica, Ray Ban, Oakley, the Emirated Literature Festival, Comic Con and many more.
Speaking about her experiences to date, Becky said:
“I help develop dynamic campaigns and secure fantastic media coverage for events such as the launch of the new Ray-Ban metas in the UAE and the Spring/Summer 2025 Essilor Luxottica Press Day. Building connections with publications such as Elle Arabia, Harpers Bazaar, GQ, and many more. All while keeping my love for photography alive through freelancing and building my personal brand, BX Photography”
In Dubai’s vibrant fashion scene, Becky has captured runway and behind-the-scenes moments at Dubai Fashion Week, and shot for luxury brand Nicillian’s launch campaign. Her journey has also been boosted by attending networking events workshops hosted by Sony, where she connected with inspiring creatives such as Timothy Matthews, a Sony ambassador who provided mentorship.
Reflecting on her time as a Fashion Photography student at BSU, Becky commented:
“Looking back, my time at BSU was truly pivotal. The hands-on experience with real clients gave me the confidence to bridge the gap between study and the professional world, and being proactive in securing internships that helped me grow rapidly. Now, I’m balancing a role as a Junior Executive in PR with my freelance photography, all while building genuine connections and letting opportunities evolve naturally. I believe that success comes from a mix of passion, persistence, and a whole lot of hard work. Trust me, when you find something you’re passionate about, it will truly make you want to push to find all these opportunities.”
BA Fashion Photography is an industry focused course that offers hand on experience to establish a successful career in creative industries. The course utilises the excellent photography facilities at the state-of-the-art design campus, Locksbrook. BA Fashion Photography is currently #1 in the South West for Satisfaction with Teaching.
Advising any current university students to keep going, she adds:
“If I could give advice to current or future students at BSU, I’d say: trust your instincts and stay true to your creative vision. There were moments when I was told to change my ideas, but pushing through and standing by my own voice earned me respect and growth. Don’t compare yourself to others-your path will be uniquely yours. Invest in yourself, push your limits, and let your authenticity shine.”
