Local Makers and Businesses crowned winners at the 2025 Creative Bath Awards

Thursday, 22 May, 2025

Last night saw the Creative Bath Awards take Komedia by storm, as nominees from BSU and other Bath-based companies came together to celebrate the creative talent the city has to offer. In addition to the awards themselves, third year BSU Product and Furniture Design student Elias Rawles has also been selected to create the design for this year’s ultimate prize, after winning the award design competition run by Creative Bath.

The awards themselves are highly contested, celebrating the most high-profile creative, tech and cultural businesses and individuals in the region. The purpose is to highlight Bath’s vibrant collection of creative and tech businesses as well as the amazing individuals that work for them.

All winners received one of Elias’ creations, in addition to the coveted ACE award that will have its own unique design and be given to the most outstanding category winner on the night, as chosen by the judges. Each award will need to follow the requirements of a three-dimensional design that can fit comfortably in winners’ hands and look impressive when displayed in the workplace.

Provided with a £1,100 budget, Elias will used batch production techniques to bring the designs to life in Locksbrook campus’ workshop spaces. Under this year's competition brief of creating something ‘unique and memorable’ Elias’ winning design takes inspiration from the Edwardian architecture in Bath, as he said:

“During the briefing they were talking about smart Edwardian faces of bath hiding creativity and what’s actually going on inside the buildings”

Elias was chosen from 10 entries and has won a £200 prize fund in addition to the production budget. Second runners up include Ben Waldie and Lucas Noble, while third runners up are Tom Scott and Kacper Traczyk.

Liam jones, community manager at Creative Bath was also involved in the process, explaining the importance of involvement from the design award winner. He said:

“It’s very important the collaboration between product designs students and Creative Bath. To go from studying in uni and having these early stages in your career it’s very important to have that pathway, to see, I can end up in this position, I can get this role, and get my work seen by professionals not just in the uni but also externally.

It’s what’s the story behind this particular building?  What’s the story behind this company? This award highlights the variety of different projects and collaborations and creativity in the hidden areas you wouldn’t expect it to be found in.”

The night also proved to be a winning occasion for BSU and its partners, with The Holburne and The Egg both coming away victorious. BSU alumni and owner Polymathic, Nigell Fryatt, swooped the award for Digital Technology and current third year student Harvey Aylmer won the ‘Creative Student’ award with his production ‘Aylmer’s Circus’. Hearing from Harvey about the production that returns to the Cotswold Playhouse in July, he said:

“Winning creative student at the creative bath awards feels incredible. It’s an honour to be recognised among such inspiring talent and has inspired me to keep chasing me dreams.”

Congratulations to all of this years nominees and award recipients!
