God Only Knows: Where are they now?

Tuesday, 24 June, 2025

Back in the height of lockdown, students and lecturers from Bath Spa University’s Commercial Music course came together to record a heartfelt homemade cover of God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.

The brainchild of Commercial Music student, Rosie Patterson, the video was intended as a fundraiser for the Music Venue Trust's 'Save our Venues' campaign and highlighted the importance of grassroots music venues whilst celebrating the resilience and creativity of BSU’s musicians.

Fast forward to today, and the stars of that video have taken a variety of inspiring paths. Not only making their mark as musicians, but shaping the future of live music, radio, and festival culture.

So where are some of those stars now?

Rosie Patterson: Behind the music scene

A 2022 Commercial Music graduate, Rosie Patterson curated the God Only Knows cover and features on the saxophone. Since the video, she has become a sought-after live-events professional, working full-time for the BBC's Live Events Department and contributing to the success of major UK festivals including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, BBC Radio 2 in the Park, and BBC 6 Music Live.

Her roles have varied from artist liaison to production coordination, working behind the scenes on iconic festival line-ups. Rosie has also worked at the Maida Vale Studios for Radio 2’s Piano Room Month, supporting sessions featuring artists such as Kim Wilde, Tom Grennan, and Teddy Swims.

Reflecting on her time at BSU, Rosie credits the Commercial Music course for giving her the foundational skills and confidence to pursue her chosen career:

“The technical and musical skills that I honed at BSU help me understand what people around me in different departments are talking about, which is infinitely useful. The performance and live events side of the course was such a brilliant stepping stone to introduce me to the world I’m in now. And I haven’t met a single ex-course member who hasn’t said the same thing.”

Sally Robinson: The voice that went extraterrestrial

Sally Robinson has already achieved a feat few artists can claim - her music has reached outside the earth’s orbit, with her song being played on the International Space Station.

Her project, A Sides | B Sides, featured double a-side releases themed around the four elements. Her song, Moonlit Skies, which she describes as a ‘love letter to Mars’ features audio from NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover and was sent to NASA astronaut Scott Kelly who sent it to be heard on the International Space Station.

Ben Hutcheson: Supporting musical icons

Singer and musician, Ben Hutcheson has made a serious splash in the industry, with recent release, Living for the Weekend, nominated for UK Country song of the year, over 50 million online streams and past performances on lineups with musical legends such as Scouting for Girls, Van Morrison, Natalie Imbruglia, and Billy Ocean.

When Ben isn’t capturing crowds with his songs or gigging with his cover band, The Super 8’s, he’s working as a Venue Relations Manager for Setmixer – an expanding company responsible for creating a device that captures, mixes and masters live performances in grassroots venues.

Annie Tiso: Backstage at the UK’s most iconic music festival

Another standout performer from the video is Annie Tiso, who now works as the Hospitality and Sales Coordinator for the UK’s most popular music festival, Glastonbury. Her work involves managing everything from ticketing and payments to hospitality accommodations for music industry professionals.

Annie's journey began through the work experience module on the Commercial Music course, which gave her a crucial head start in the live events world. She said:

“My work experience module was hugely beneficial to my career as it enabled me to go out to work in the industries we prepare for on the degree. This greatly impacted how I approached my final year at university; the course produces top-tier musicians and artists, but this path allowed me further insight into many of the other roles in the music industry.”

Bath Spa University’s Commercial Music alumni continue to prove that passion, collaboration, and perseverance can launch extraordinary careers. Whether they're sending their music into zero gravity, working in historic studios, performing with some of the biggest names in music, or bringing festivals to life, these former students are leaving their mark on the industry.

God only knows where they’ll go next...
