Bath Spa University officially accredited as Living Wage Employer

BSU is proud to have been supporting its employees with the cost of living for many years, but this month the University made it official with the help of the Living Wage Foundation. 

Bath Spa University is now an accredited Living Wage Employer. This is a recognition awarded by the Living Wage Foundation to BSU for voluntarily paying its staff a wage that meets everyday needs, with employees earning enough to support themselves and their families.  

The Living Wage Foundation calculates and publishes a ‘real Living Wage’, the only UK wage rate independently calculated based on the cost of living, rising annually based on living costs.  

Being met by nearly 16,000 accredited organisations around the UK and by BSU for many years ahead of this official accreditation, the annual rate is announced by the Foundation at the end of October each year. 

It is higher than the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage, and accounts for the increased cost of living in the capital by calculating a ‘London rate’ as well as the ‘across UK rate’.  

"Paying a genuine living wage to the BSU working community is very important to us. As we help our students to thrive, nurturing tomorrow’s employees and entrepreneurs, it's our responsibility to make sure the people working here feel supported too.

"We have been committed to this for many years, and we're proud to have made it official with the help of the Living Wage Foundation."

Professor Georgina Andrews, Vice-Chancellor of BSU, said:

“I am delighted that we have achieved this accreditation. Whilst I recognise that we already pay these rates, this demonstrates our commitment to continue to support our employed staff and workers involved with the University.”
