BSU prepares to showcase work from emerging artists at annual MA Degree Show

Monday, 1 September, 2025

Bath Spa University is inviting the public into its innovative art and design space, Locksbrook Campus, to explore the work of the emerging artists and designers of the future at this year’s MA Degree Show.

Exhibiting the work of its MA Art and Design students, this highly anticipated event promises to impress, spotlighting the achievements of BSU’s class of 2025 and giving students the opportunity to showcase their final projects to the public.

Open from 6 – 10 September 2025, the show is set to spotlight the best work from students specialising in Ceramics, Curatorial Practice, Media, Painting, Photography, Graphics, Illustration, Textiles and Visual Communication. For some, it's a chance to exhibit their work publicly for the very first time, and for others, it's a stepping stone to exciting career progression opportunities.

Discussing the upcoming show, Subject Leader in Art, Charlie Tweed, said:

“We are really excited about the upcoming MA Art and Design show, we have some brilliant and diverse works on display from our MA Fine Art students across sculpture, painting, ceramics, photography, curatorial practice and media. We also have a range of performances, talks and workshops which will take place throughout the event.

“This year we have seen some real breakthroughs in many of the students' work and some great successes with selection for the Porthleven Prize residency as well as for this year's Holburne Museum MA exhibition.”

Associate Vice-Provost, Natasha Kidd, added:

“Every year, I’m blown away by the ambition and quality of the work made in the studios and workshops. I can’t wait to see the way this work gets presented to an audience over the coming weeks. Good luck, all, and well done to the teams of academics and technicians that have supported them.”

Key in promoting this year’s show to the BSU community and beyond, its branding was skilfully undertaken by final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design students Alfie Maltby and Callum Hill. Explaining the thought behind their designs, they said:

"We wanted a graphic that communicated the essence of Locksbrook, whilst keeping the focus on the courses that will be exhibiting work within the show, therefore we began this project with a thorough investigation into the visuals of the campus.

"This approach took us to the floor plans, which we found was a successful motif. We designed a versatile system which can be translated into a variety of formats, bringing it back to the theme of Locksbrook Unlocked.”

The MA Degree Show Private View will take place 5 September 2025, 6 pm – 9 pm, by invitation only. The Public View will run from 6 – 10 September 2025 from 10 am – 6 pm and is open to all. During the Show, a number of pieces produced by students will be available for purchase. For further details, interested parties can view this year's price list and find out more about the Show on the Degree Show webpage.
