BSU society raises funds for Marie Curie

Friday, 23 May, 2025

BSU’s Musical Theatre Society is hosting a fundraiser of an original jukebox musical, ‘The Good, The Bad and the MT’.

Having originally performed the show as a 48-hour project in November 2024, the Musical Theatre Society have decided to re-do the show, but with weekly rehearsals and an aim to raise money for the British charity, Marie Curie.

President of BSMTS, Rebecca Taylor, summarised the decision to reprise the small show for the end of the academic year:

“We loved the show the first time we did it. Doing it for a charity this time keeps the fun for all of us involved but also gives us an amazing opportunity to do something for a charity we all care so much about. This time, we have put everything into it and can give all the proceeds to charity because of the amount of support from our show. Whether people come and watch the show or just give a donation, it makes a huge difference to all of us.”

The original jukebox comedy musical takes the audience behind the curtain of the Musical Theatre society in a typical year, going through weekly rehearsals, drama, socials  – and of course the final show – with drama, laughter and crowd-pleasing songs, from Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Take That, the Pussycat Dolls, and more.

Megan Thomas, BSU Theatre, Event and Festival Production alumna and current BSMTS Choreographer, reflected on her decision to write the show.

“After the success of our previous 48 hour shows, we decided it would be good to create something for this year. We knew we wanted to do something fun and upbeat…The Good, The Bad and the MT was born after I realised the best thing you can write about is something you know well, and I know Musical Theatre people and the drama like the back of my hand.

On the choice to support Marie Curie, Meg says:

“I have seen first hand what incredible work this charity does, and I wanted to say thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff who my family will be ever grateful for.”

Marie Curie is dedicated to providing care and support to people with terminal illnesses, and their families. With a focus on ensuring that individuals facing life limiting conditions receive the highest quality of care, the charity offers a range of services, including hospice care, home nursing, and emotional support for loved ones.

With the help of donations and volunteers, Marie Curie is able to provide these essential services free of charge, allowing patients and families to focus on what matters most during difficult times.
