Celebrating BSU’s creative originality with our Tote Bag Design Competition

Wednesday, 4 June, 2025

Bath Spa University’s Marketing team have confirmed the three winners of their new tote bag design competition, created to showcase the talent of its innovative student body.

BSU tote bags are taken up and down the country every year to be handed out at external events to prospective students. You’ll also see them at Open Days and Offer Holder Days and might even already have one yourself.

In a new twist, this year, the University's tote bags will display art made by BSU students, to be seen by thousands of people all over the UK and beyond.

For the first time, students were asked to create a bold and striking design that showed what BSU meant to them. The competition was open to all, with students not needing to be studying an art and design related course to enter.

Find out more about our three winners below.

Maja Kurasinska

Maja is a first year BA (Hons) Graphic Design exchange student whose design is inspired by a video game inventory, ‘filled with everything that makes Bath Spa University special to [her]’. Inside, you can find Maja’s favourite snacks and 'power up' (coffee), as well as BSU’s resident sheep, a nod to Maja’s favourite spot in Bath, Pulteney Bridge.

Speaking on her piece, Maja said:

‘’Each item represents a piece of my journey, capturing the creativity, connection, and inspiration I’ve found here... I'm really happy to be one of the winners of the competition –especially as an exchange student whose only been here for a semester. Bath Spa University has given me so much insight and so many new opportunities, so I’m glad I could create an illustration that reflects everything I love about it."

Molly Perry

Molly is a second year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student who typically works in printmaking at Locksbrook Campus. The BSU community might be familiar with the stars of her piece, as it pays homage to the University's very own cuddly celebrities, the Care Dogs.

Molly’s piece was digitally illustrated on procreate, and then converted into a risograph print, and is also available for purchase at the Locksbrook art shop.

Izzy Wilkins

Izzy is a first year BA (Hons) Business and Management (Marketing) student here at BSU who primarily focuses on digital art and illustration. Her piece offers a new take on another familiar face at BSU; one of beloved campus sheep.

Speaking on the inspiration for her design, Izzy said:

“The sheep, a nod to the landscape around BSU, consists of binary code representing online creativity. It's sitting with a laptop to show how our university is nature-focused but still modern/up to date and fun. The background gives the peaceful environment I love on campus, while the overall design is playful, crisp, and whimsical... I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity as a small artist to celebrate my university through my art and share it with others.’’
