This Valentine’s Day, meet the BSU graduate redefining modern dating
Friday, 13 February, 2026BSU students have a reputation for building innovative businesses from the ground up, and BA Photography graduate and founder of Single Strangers, Sarah Beeusaert, is no exception.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we caught up with Sarah to find out how she’s turned her passion into a thriving business. Single Strangers is an independent dating events company operating across Bath, Bristol, and Cardiff, offering low-pressure, inclusive spaces where people can meet others in the same boat - no awkward speed dates or forced icebreakers.
Developing skills central to how she markets and grows her business, Sarah brought what she learned at BSU to her workplace. Sharpening her eye for visual storytelling, branding and mood, Sarah’s Photography degree trained her to think about how things feel, not just how they look, which she describes as ‘essential when building a brand rooted in emotion, connection and trust.’
Utilising these skills, Sarah has created a fresh alternative to modern dating that prioritises genuine connection, whether you’re looking for friendship or love, or even unexpected business connections.
Sarah focuses her business on rebuilding confidence and encouraging real conversations in a world dominated by screens. At the heart of the brand is Sarah herself, open and honest about the realities of dating, and proving that while people say business isn’t personal, for her, it absolutely is.
Discussing what inspired her to get into the industry, Sarah said:
“I’d noticed how disconnected modern dating had become. Apps felt transactional, impersonal and exhausting due to the amount of admin involved."

This Valentine’s Day, Sarah is set to host a singles social at Coret Coffee Shop in Bath, inviting people ages 24–35 to celebrate connection on their own terms. Created for those who’d rather lean into community than feel sidelined by couple culture, the event offers a warm, relaxed space to meet new people and enjoy the day without expectations; reframing being single not as a placeholder, but as a time worth celebrating.
The event will challenge the idea that Valentine’s Day is reserved for couples, giving guests the freedom to enjoy the day exactly as they are. Discussing how she views the upcoming event and the concept of Valentine’s Day, Sarah said:
“It’s a reminder that being single isn’t something to endure on Valentine’s Day, it’s something worth enjoying. Valentine’s Day doesn’t belong to couples. It belongs to anyone open to connection and confident enough to opt out of the script.”
