If you can't attend a BSU Open Day, why not come along to a Campus Tour?

A Bath Spa Open Day - where decisions are made!

You’ve had a look online; you’ve been to a UCAS fair; you’ve got your stack of prospectuses; now it’s time to really delve into the universities that interest you most.

A BSU Open Day is a great opportunity to figure out if our university is the one for you. You can check out our campuses, meet other students, scope out the social life, and visit your future halls.

You’ll know it’s right when you can’t wait to get started!

Planning your day

From building your timetable to what to bring with you, find out how to prepare for your visit here

Booking sessions/creating your timetable

Once you've booked an Open Day, we'll email you with a link to book on to course sessions at the event, a month before you visit. You can plan an outline of your day with course talks etc. as well as see where you need to be and when. This helps you, and us, make your visit as smooth as possible.

You'll receive the final Open Day timetable for the whole event a week before by email.

You don't have to book sessions - it's not compulsory. However, we really recommend booking talks to help you make the most of your visit and plan your day with us. It also helps us to manage room capacities for busy talks.

What to bring with you?

We’d recommend bringing:

  • a notebook and pen
  • a small bag for carrying any leaflets or flyers you might pick up
  • a reusable water bottle and/or hot drink container. We have free water fountains available across both campuses.

Newton Park

As our Newton Park campus is in a rural location, we would recommend preparing for all weathers (especially for our autumn events). We’d suggest bringing comfortable shoes for walking around and exploring our buildings and grounds, as well as an umbrella or raincoat for inclement weather and suncream and hats for summer events.

Assistance dogs are welcome to join you for your visit in most spaces, however there may be some technical spaces where we are not able to accommodate them. Please ask a member of staff on the day if you are unsure.

We are lucky to have beautiful outdoor spaces, with much to explore and public footpaths that cross our site, but if your dog is not a working assistance animal, please note that they will not be allowed into our campus buildings. We do also have a large number of animals (including livestock and other pet dogs) around and close to university spaces.

Locksbrook:

Our Locksbrook Open Days take place primarily indoors, in one location, however, you will need to walk around 10 minutes away from the campus to visit the nearby accommodation blocks. Please wear suitable footwear and be mindful of the weather when planning your visit.

Assistance dogs are welcome to join you for your visit in most spaces, however there may be some technical spaces where we are not able to accommodate them. Please ask a member of staff on the day if you are unsure.

If your dog is not a working assistance animal, please note that they will not be allowed into the building.

Accessibility

When booking your event, we would encourage you to request any additional support you may need to facilitate your visit. Our team will then be able to reach out to you to make additional arrangements where helpful.

Blue badge parking

If you or a member of your group is a Blue Badge holder you can find dedicated parking on both Newton Park and Locksbrook campuses. Feel free to ask for directions from one of our event staff on the day and they will be able to direct you to a space. Parking is free for all Open Day events.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome to join you for your visit in most spaces, however there may be some technical spaces where we are not able to accommodate them. Please ask a member of staff on the day if you are unsure.

Large-print programmes and presentations

We are able to provide large-print Open Day programmes on request. Please add this as an additional requirement to your booking. Where requested, we can also provide copies of Open Day presentations by email after the event.

BSL interpreters and audio loops

If you require a British Sign Language (BSL) qualified interpreter to support you, please let us know on your booking form and we will reach out to you to discuss your needs and make any arrangements in time.

Support for neurodiversity

We have a quiet space available to visit at all times in Main House on Newton Park.

Please speak to our Student Wellbeing Team at the event to find out more about how we can support you while studying with us.

Public transport

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we encourage travelling to our Open Day events on public transport, if possible.

Both Newton Park and Locksbrook campuses are served by local First Bus services, and it's easy to reach us by bus from Bath City Centre. Please check our Find us page for more information.

Book an Open Day

What to expect at an Open Day

Before your event, we'll email you some information to help you plan your visit.

On the day, you'll receive a full programme and timetable when you register, and there'll be plenty of helpful Student Ambassadors around to point you in the right direction.

What can I do at an Open Day?

Here’s an example of what to expect during your Open Day.

  • Check out the course sessions and stands – chat to our course leaders!
  • Head out on campus tours led by our Student Ambassadors
  • Drop in to our student accommodation (both on Newton Park campus, and in the city just a short walk from Locksbrook)
  • Grab food at the Refectory or Café and check out the Students’ Union
  • Chat to student services like Accommodation, Wellbeing and Careers.
  • Think about some questions you want to ask our staff and students. An Open Day is your chance to find out the answers to everything important to you.

How can I make the most of my visit?

This is your chance to ask our staff and students anything you want to know. You could ask:

  • What's life like living on campus?
  • What’s the best thing about being a student at Bath Spa?
  • What are the clubs and societies like?
  • What sort of things would I be studying on the course?
  • What are the entry requirements?
  • What are some cool places to visit in Bath?
  • What kind of financial funding or scholarships are available?

Information for Parents and Supporters

Open Days are a great way to get a feel for the University, to learn about what we can offer your student, and how we’ll support them throughout their time with us.

This is an opportunity to meet with student services, support staff and the senior leadership team and to ask them any questions you may have, and for us to help you with any concerns.

We know that the day can sometimes be overwhelming for students, so it’s handy to have a few questions you’d like to ask on their behalf you think they’d like to know the answers to as well.

Parking, travel and finding your way around

Your Open Day will take place at either:

  • Newton Park Campus, Newton St Loe, Bath, BA2 9BN
  • Locksbrook Campus, Locksbrook Road, Bath, BA1 3EL

For advice on travelling to our campuses, please see our guidance on how to find us. Parking arrangements are outlined below.

Parking

Newton Park

If you're arriving by car, parking is free at Newton Park.

If you or a member of your group is a Blue Badge holder you can find dedicated parking outside Commons, the Library and Main House. Feel free to ask for directions from one of our event staff on the day and they will be able to direct you to a space.

Other visitors will be directed to the next available space in the main carpark at the top of the campus.

Locksbrook

Parking at our Locksbrook campus is free for Open Day with a Blue Badge. Due to limited parking, we're asking all other Locksbrook Open Day visitors to park at offsite carparking nearby where you'll then be able to catch a regular, free shuttle bus to Locksbrook campus.

We would encourage visitors to arrive by public transport if possible. The campus is a 15-20 minute walk along the river from the main Bath Spa railway station, and is well-served by regular buses.

Refreshments

You can find food and drink to purchase on the day at a number of our catering outlets on campus. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available throughout the day.

Social media, photography and video

We'd love you to share your experience with us on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. Make sure to tag us to share the best bits of your day.

During your visit you might notice members of our Social Media and Digital Content teams capturing photos and videos for future use. Please speak to them if you would prefer not to be photographed.
