Personal statement

Alex Campbell currently writes as Alex Cotter for children’s publisher Nosy Crow, with whom she has published three middle-grade novels. Her first middle-grade book, The House on the Edge was selected as a WHSmith Travel Book of the Month and chosen for the 'Read for Empathy' collection. She's also previously written YA novels with Hot Key Books as Alex Campbell. Her first YA novel, Land, was nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2016.

Alex has worked within book PR, from author tours to helping to organise The Booker Prize, and for many years worked as a copywriter and communications consultant. She has over fifteen years’ experience as an editor and mentor for other writers and has also worked as a mentor on a scheme to build confidence in recently published authors. In addition, she has experience of running all kinds of talks and workshops, occasionally using some of her skills as a trained relationship counsellor.

Alex is passionate about helping inspire other writers to develop their creative talent, from sharing innovative processes and prompts to tailoring techniques and collaborations that can suit a wide range of individual writing styles and workshops.
