Personal statement

As Placements and Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Ellie supports students to find and gain a range of professional industry experience. Alongside her colleagues in the Placements Team, Ellie’s role includes delivering teaching on placement modules, offering 1-to-1 appointments, and delivering workshops and presentations. Ellie also supports students who are undertaking their Professional Placement Year (PPY). As a PPY Coordinator, Ellie acts as a main point of contact for students who are out on placement through check-ins, regular calls, and visits. She ensures students are engaged and connected to both the university and their placement role.

Ellie works closely with the school of Writing, Publishing & Humanities and the School of Art, Film & Media. She also helps deliver the Work Placement Open Module and the Summer Placement Open Module which offer shorter term placement opportunities. As well as working in curricular, Ellie focuses on extra-curricular opportunities, specifically the Bath Spa Works: Internships. Wanting to expand the work experience offer to students and facilitate alternative ways to gain skills and professional experience, Ellie works closely with her colleagues in the Employer Relations Team to engage with a wide variety of local employers to provide flexible, paid, opportunities, exclusive to our current Bath Spa University students.

Ellie is currently studying for her Level 7 as a Careers Development Professional through which she aims to advance her skills and knowledge of career development and delivery, as well as insights into decision making and the wider impact on and from the labour market. Ellie hopes to apply her studies to her practice, enabling her to further aid the students and colleagues she works with.

Prior to joining Bath Spa University in 2019, Ellie spent a short time in HR before training to become a teacher of English as a foreign language. She worked at a UK English studies school, before working abroad for a few years. She enjoys working with students and supporting them in making the most of their university experience and potential.
