Personal statement
As a Placements and Work-Based Learning Coordinator and member of the Placements Team, Jess supports students to gain a range of professional industry experience. Jess focuses on the Professional Placement Year (PPY), where students take a year between their 2nd and 3rd year of studies to gain industry experience.
By delivering teaching on the PPY module and 1-2-1 appointments, Jess supports students throughout the process to gain PPY opportunities. Jess also supports students whilst they are on their PPY, as their PPY Coordinator and main contact at the university. Through check-ins, visits and employer communication, Jess ensures that the student is doing well in their placement, remaining connected to university and fulfilling the responsibilities of their role.
Jess also works closely with the Business School and Bath Spa University London. In supporting the Business School with their placement modules, Jess teaches and assists on both the Work Placement Open Module and the Summer Placement Open Module. These modules offer a shorter-term work experience opportunity for students unsure of undertaking a PPY.
Prior to joining Bath Spa University in 2023, Jess worked for a mental health charity and a students’ union advice department. She enjoys supporting students through their education and placements to enhance the overall student experience.
