Joe is Research Projects and Governance Manager within the Research Support Office at Bath Spa University, where he plays a central role in supporting the institution’s research and enterprise activity. He provides strategic and operational guidance to academic colleagues across all Schools and Departments, ensuring that funded projects are delivered effectively, ethically, and in alignment with institutional and funder priorities.
Joe specialises in post-award grant management, research governance, and the development of our institutional culture of research integrity. He works closely with funders ranging from UKRI and the British Academy to Horizon Europe and commercial and third-sector partners, supporting a wide range of projects from small exploratory studies to major multi-partner collaborations. His work includes financial oversight, contract negotiation, and ensuring compliance with research integrity standards and funder terms, as well as supporting Academic staff with project delivery.
He's particularly committed to fostering ethical and people-focused research environments. His contributions have supported initiatives such as a regional race equity research network and have helped improve institutional performance in areas like grant financial recovery and staff research integrity training compliance.
With a background in strategic project delivery in both higher education and the NHS, Joe brings a pragmatic and collaborative approach to research support. His interests include research culture, governance, and the intersection of ethics and research strategy.
