Personal statement

I'm the Head of the Bath School of Music and Performing Arts and Associate Professor in Music Innovation, where I lead a team of academics who operate at the forefront of their disciplines, across teaching and research practices.

BSMPA is a forward-thinking School, and our focus is on creating learning environments where students feel valued and able to develop skills, knowledge and experience that will equip them for successful, fulfilling and sustainable careers in the global creative sector.

As a creative musician and researcher, I’m interested in exploring the evolving nature of music and sound practices. I'm a BAFTA award winner, and my work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. My academic writing has been published in books and academic journals, with a wide focus on music in relation to streaming platform economics, blockchain technologies and continental philosophy.

My book, Ecologies of Creative Music Practice: Mattering Music, examines musical creativity and commerce in the context of artificial intelligence, financial technologies and intellectual property rights, set against a background of philosophical theory, including new materialism, speculative realism and deep ecology.
