Personal statement
Yuhan is a lecturer in Sociology. Her research sits at the intersection of Sociology and Science and Technology Studies (STS). Her specific interests include digital platforms, datafication, infrastructures, ecosystem building, digital sovereignty, and digital research methods. She explores digital infrastructures in both Western and East Asian ecosystems, with a focus on unpacking the ‘black box’ of technology as a way of analysing society.
Yuhan completed her PhD at the University of Bristol. Her doctoral research primarily investigated how digital platform design, underpinned by datafication infrastructures, affords an imagined community during everyday use.
Before joining Bath Spa University, Yuhan was a lecturer at the University of Bristol, where she taught digital methods and data skills. Her teaching portfolio also includes modules on sociological theories, key social debates, social identities, and sustainable development. As a researcher at the Bristol Institute of Learning and Teaching, she co-developed a higher education training course on Artificial Intelligence, critically examining the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into pedagogy.
Yuhan is a co-convenor of the STS Study Group at the British Sociological Association, collaborating with colleagues across institutions to promote the intellectual synergy between Sociology and STS.
