Commons
As our main teaching building on Newton Park campus, Commons features superb classroom facilities, social spaces, specialist digital resources and immersive views of the surrounding countryside.
Inside Commons you'll find spacious lecture halls, seminar rooms, computer suites, study spaces, a café, TV studios and staff offices.
Opening hours
The ground floor of Commons is open from 6am to midnight. Other spaces in Commons (such as the café, upper floors and specific teaching rooms) may operate different opening times.

Study spaces
Looking for somewhere to study? Commons has no shortage of places to sit and study, including both individual seats and pods for group working. You can also book pods and meeting rooms ahead of time.
Student services
The Academic Skills service and Careers team are based on the ground floor of Commons (opposite the café). Both offer drop-in appointments to support you with your studies and future career.
Student Digital Learning Assistants
During term time, our Student Digital Learning Assistants are available every weekday between 10am-2pm. You can find them on the ground floor of Commons (opposite the café) or book an online appointment by emailing sdlas@bathspa.ac.uk.
Student Digital Learning Assistants can help with:
- Using your BSU email account
- Using Ultra
- Submitting assignments
- Using Adobe tools such as Adobe Express
- Accessing Microsoft apps such as Word and Excel
- Using generative AI.
Café Commons
Located on the ground floor of Commons, the café is a convenient place to grab a drink, lunch or a snack. There's plenty of seating, including booths for larger groups.
As well as hot and cold drinks, it serves a wide range of sandwiches, homemade paninis and toasties, premium cakes and muffins, and other sweet treats. If you're in a hurry, you can browse its selection of fresh grab-and-go sandwiches, salads and more.
TV studios
Commons is also home to the best specialist digital and studio facilities for teaching in the South West – equal to anything found in top commercial organisations and broadcast companies.
Our multi-camera TV studios are equipped to exceed industry-standard, and sit alongside our professional control room, post-production suites, viewing theatre and podcast studio.
Students and staff can also loan technical equipment from the Asset Store, located on the ground floor of Commons.
