The production manager is the centre of any show. This brand-new innovative Masters course is one of very few in the UK and is designed for those who want to shape the future of screen content from behind the scenes. You’ll gain hands-on experience, collaborate with Filmmaking students, and benefit from industry partnerships that connect you to a career in the film and tv industries.
You’ll be taught by an industry experienced team, learning from both specialist business lecturers and professionals active in the film and tv industries. You’ll learn how to negotiate the world of studios and networks, manage people and shape creative projects from start to finish. You’ll gain valuable experience of finance and project management, locations, you’ll develop the skills to successfully realise the vision of any production.
You’ll have the opportunity to channel your passion for film and television into a career which manages how it is produced. This Masters in Film and Television Production Management will equip you with a specialist knowledge of business practices in the rapidly expanding global film and television industry, blazing your trail to a successful career.

What you'll learn
This programme integrates knowledge of film and television production with an understanding of operations management. You'll learn how to manage projects successfully within a media context and finish the course well-prepared for a career in industry.
In addition to accounting and budgeting, you'll also learn about contracts and governance. You'll learn about the principles of good production such as how to manage locations, cast and crew and how to organise international filming.
Other key topics include communication, sustainability, strategic operations management and creative scheduling.
The programme will be delivered in three trimesters. Trimesters one and two will cover a wide range of topics on Film and TV Production Management.
Business and Marketing topics will include
- Project Management
- Finance and Management Accounting.
Specialist content on Sustainable Production Management will cover an understanding of creativity and the production process, people management, principles of good production managing locations, cast and crew, and much more.
Principles of advanced production management will be taught with specialist content on contracts, budgets and insurance, ethics and risk management, and low budget productions and Green Shooting.
Collaborative learning opportunities using an industry partnered live brief is a key feature of the programme.
This learning in the first two trimesters leads up to the final project in trimester three which will be conducted under tutor supervision and/or industry mentoring.
You'll be assessed through a variety of methods, including portfolios, client work, industry-standard production management assignments, critical pieces, projects, analytical exercises, research reports and presentations.
You'll learn through a variety of lectures, workshops, task based assignments, group activity and peer informed learning exercises, industry-facing projects, real-life case studies, and guest sessions by experienced professionals.

It's a very exciting time for the industry as there's been a huge increase in the Video Streaming market, with the number of users worldwide expected to grow to 1.7bn users by 2029. User penetration is projected to increase from 19.3% in 2025 to 21.7% by 2029.
This course aims to equip graduates for employment in this rapidly growing market and is aligned with high sector demand. The programme is designed with clear entry routes to skilled employment.

We’re looking for creative individuals who have a clear focus for professional development and a passion for the industry.
This programme is open to Bachelors degree holders in any Film and/or Media related programme, as well as those from Creative Arts and Humanities and Business programmes.
