Tuesday 22 April
To celebrate Earth Day, the University is inviting the BSU community to champion sustainability, biodiversity, and the beauty of our planet. Discover incredible displays from BSU’s living labs and join the Avon Wildlife Trust and the RSPB at Newton Park, Commons, from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm to discuss the inspiring work they do every day.
Tuesday 6 May
Explore thought-provoking student exhibits, take a talk and tour around the stunning Newton St Loe, or don your chef’s hat to learn how to whip up delicious, sustainable meals at a plant-based cookery class.
Throughout Green Week, the Sustainability Team will ask the BSU community to join the conversation by answering the question, ‘How are you sustainable in your day-to-day life?’ and recording their thoughts on a mood board.
Wednesday 7 May
Discover eco-friendly travel options, including cutting-edge e-bikes and sustainable transport solutions, bring a bike for a free tune-up and hear expert advice to keep wheels spinning smoothly. Or, for anyone looking for a new ride, Julian House will be hosting a pre-loved bike sale. These events will also be running at Locksbrook Campus on 8 May.
Did you know? Bath Spa University founded the first-ever World Newt Day – celebrated in recognition of the University’s commitment to preserving the newt species.
Newton Park is home to all the UK’s native species: Smooth, Palmate, and, most notably, a thriving population of Great Crested Newts. This Green Week, staff and students are invited to dive into the biodiversity of this fascinating species by taking part in a series of newt surveys.
Thursday 8 May
Grab a drink in one of BSU’s refill cups and head over to the Refectory to enjoy a delicious, plant-based BBQ, or revamp your wardrobe and find pre-loved treasures at the British Heart Foundation’s curated clothes sale.
Students and staff are also invited to discover exciting opportunities with an interactive Adobe walking mural and share their thoughts on what sustainability means to them or take part in an external ‘cooking with food waste’ at Norland College where visitors can discover creative and sustainable ways to reduce food waste.
In addition to the lineup of events, BSU is running two competitions in anticipation of Earth Day and Green Week.
Name the road sweeper and win a spa experience
The Flexigo 150 Road Sweeper keeps our campus clean and helps create nutrient-rich leaf mould for our gardens—but it needs a name. Submit your most creative idea and you could win a spa experience for two at Thermae Spa in Bath.
Design a sweeper wrap with Adobe
BSU has teamed up with Adobe to offer the chance to transform a road sweeper. The winning design will be turned into a vinyl wrap and proudly displayed on the sweeper.
BSU is committed to driving change not just through education and research, but through every part of how it operates as an institution, making sustainability a priority at the University, and beyond.
