Inkland anthology showcases voices of WFYP class of 2024

Tuesday, 6 May, 2025

The work of Bath Spa University’s MA Writing for Young People has been immortalised in an anthology, recognising the talents of this year’s cohort.

Every year, students on the MA Creative Writing and MA Writing for Young People produce a publication showcasing samples of their best work throughout the course. An example of the hard work, determination, and creativity of this year’s graduates, the publications are created, edited, typeset, proofed, and printed by an MA anthology team, who work together to create an anthology that aptly reflects the legacy of its contributors.

The MA Writing for Young People anthology, Inkland, takes the reader through twenty-seven manuscript excerpts, spanning lower and middle grades to young adult and acting as a platform for the emerging author’s promising careers.

Entirely student-led, the project empowers graduates to take creative control – producing original work while gaining real-world experience with industry professionals. The dedicated team behind the anthology comprised volunteers from the graduating cohort, all committed to crafting the strongest collection possible.

Caitlin Clement headed up the anthology’s social media channels alongside fellow team members. Discussing her experiences working on Inkland, she said:

“Working on the anthology was such a labour of love for the entire leadership team, and the collaborative process helped forge even tighter friendships among the wonderful writers I was lucky to meet on the course.”

Endorsed by BSU professors, CJ Skuse, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, shared her thoughts on Inkland in the opening pages of the anthology. She said:

“Each member of this cohort has displayed an impressive ability to grapple with complex ideas, articulate them with clarity and originality, and produce work that not only meets but surpasses the highest academic and creative standards. Throughout their studies, these writers have embraced every challenge with a collaborative spirit and an unrelenting drive to grow and excel.”

BSU’s MA Creative Writing courses attract vibrant writers with a story to tell, allowing them to learn from published authors, with regular visits by literary agents, publishers, magazine editors and broadcasters.

Sarah Currie Dyer, MA Writing for Young People graduate and the anthology’s typesetter, described her experience on the MA as offering invaluable opportunities and connecting her to a network of inspiring writers. She said:

“The Writing for Young People MA has offered me so many opportunities: taking part in Literature Across Borders, presenting at Leaf Journal’s ‘On Writing’ conference, and participating in a read aloud at Bath Children’s Literature Festival. As a programme respected in the children’s publishing industry, it has opened friendships with authors I admire and alumni who have come before me.”

The class of 2024 celebrated their success at a launch event in London at Waterstones Piccadilly last week, marking the release of Inkland and attended by top children’s literary agents and editors. You can find out more and read Inkland on the cohort’s website
