Professor Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou announced as new Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Bath Spa University is delighted to announce that Professor Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, following a highly competitive internal and external selection process that involved Governors, senior staff and SU representation 

Professor Anagnostopoulou has been a part of the BSU community for nine years where she has most recently served as Vice-Provost.  

As a Professor of Higher Education, Kyriaki is also a leading academic in the field of education and educational innovation and has over 27 years of experience in higher education. Nationally recognised with a National Teaching Fellowship, Kyriaki is a thought leader who has presented at conferences across the world and contributed extensively to education policy and practice. She has worked with the British Council and the Government of India on large-scale, technology-enhanced initiatives to build national capacity and widen access to HE, and her advisory and consultancy roles also include Jisc, and other national bodies and institutions.

In her role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at BSU, Kyriaki will have wide-ranging responsibilities, including playing a leading role in developing university strategy, driving the development of our future portfolio, overseeing our academic schools, research and enterprise and the academic planning directorate, and deputising for the Vice-Chancellor.

The Higher Education sector is navigating a real period of change and challenge, and Kyriaki has the fresh thinking and innovative approach we need to help our university, and our students, to thrive in the years ahead. Her leadership combines strategic foresight, operational excellence, and a collaborative commitment to enabling innovation, resilience, and inclusion.” 

Professor Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou said: 

“It’s an extremely exciting time to be taking on this role and I’m looking forward to working across the University community. BSU is very well placed to navigate any sector challenges and has the potential to grow and evolve in a way that will allow it to realise its full potential. I am genuinely honoured to be entrusted with the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and will do my utmost to serve the University well.” 

We are also pleased to confirm that Professor Rebecca Schaaf has been appointed to the role of Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dr Mark McGuinness will step into the role of Interim Vice Provost. 

Professor Anagnostopoulou will begin her role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Bath Spa University on 1 November 2025.
