Remembrance Day Commemorations

Tuesday, 11 November, 2025

On 11 November, at 11am, the BSU Chaplaincy team lead a Remembrance Day commemoration, for those who have lost their lives in War and conflict, past and present with a two-minute silence.

Starting at 10:50am, the team held a ‘Short Act of Remembrance’ at BSU’s Newton Park and Locksbrook campuses to reflect and remember the efforts and bravery of those involved, and those who have passed due to conflict between nations. A short reading was read by Lead Chaplain, Rev Dr Katy Garner, and the silence was proceeded by  Jeffery Boehm, Music lecturer, on the trumpet. The commemoration invited the BSU community to direct their minds to not only the brave people who have died in wars past, but also to those who affected because of wars today.

Staff and students were also invited to write a message of hope or remembrance on a small poppy, and place it in on the floor, to create a large poppy design on the ground in commemoration.

Three people stood by microphones, next to a poppy display

Rev. Dr. Katy Garner, Lead Chaplain, explained:

“We’re creating a poppy-shaped outline on the floor where people can place their own poppy designs, each carrying a personal message of hope, remembrance, or prayer. It’s a moment for us all to pause and reflect - not only to honour those affected by conflict, but also to express our hopes for peace in places still experiencing war today.”
