The Vice Chancellor's Awards celebrates students and staff from a broad range of courses, departments and disciplines, including outstanding student artwork and photography. The Vice Chancellor’s Prize in Art and Design similarly recognises contributions from BSU students’ work.

Two winning artworks by Ellie Applegate and Lily Maddocks were chosen from a competitive pool of submissions from the 2025 awards nominees by a panel of university staff and student representatives.

Ellie was invited to Main House to see her winning photograph, called ‘Ghillie Girls’ being installed in the Gallery in Main House.

Speaking about winning the Vice Chancellor’s Prize in Art and Design, Ellie said:

"I feel incredibly honoured and delighted that my photograph is a part of the university's permanent collection. It's been exciting to produce a framed piece with the help of all the amazing technicians down at Locksbrook.”
