Personal statement

James has a background in sport and clinical exercise science, and works at BSU as a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition.

He gained a First Class degree in BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching from the University of Wolverhampton in 2011; followed by an MA (distinction equivalent) in International Sport Studies from the Universität Konstanz (Germany) in 2014; and a PhD from the University of Winchester in 2020.

James has a keen interest in all things related to exercise science, health, performance and nutrition, and applies these to the modules he leads and teaches on, including "Applied Sport & Exercise Nutrition" and "Anatomy, Physiology & Metabolism for Physical Activity".

James' PhD thesis centred around the use of bone graft materials during knee surgery with a view to optimising post-operative return to physical activity. His current research focus is on the use of cryocompression therapy as a means to enhance recovery from surgery, injury and exercise.

James has published several peer-reviewed articles on these topics and has presented his research at numerous national and international medical conferences.
