I chose to study at BSU because...
I knew that I wanted to work as a therapist in the future, so it was important for me to choose a university that offered appropriate and relevant modules, such as the counselling and clinical psychology modules that were offered in my second year.
I chose this university for its BPS accreditation, as it signifies the high standard of education that Bath Spa University provides, as well as being a crucial requirement for further education and my future career aspirations.
Lastly, I chose Bath Spa as it was important for me to choose a campus that felt welcoming and was immersed in nature. When visiting friends from other universities, I would often see large universities with huge grey buildings, which often left me feeling overwhelmed and out of place.
Bath Spa is built on such lovely grounds and has many places where you can unwind, making it a great campus when transitioning to a university lifestyle.
The best thing about my course was...
The range of modules was one of the best things about the course, as I was able to acquire such a wide range of knowledge and explore fields of psychology that I did not know that I was interested in.
I appreciated being challenged in modules that I was less acquainted with and being able to converse with staff about the content. In addition to the core modules required for the BPS accreditation, I loved having the option to choose modules in my second and third year.
By having the options to explore what I was most interested in and passionate about, I was able to tailor my course to what I was interested in and what would be beneficial for me in my future career.
My favourite experience was...
Hands down, my favourite experience was doing my dissertation, as I was able to delve into the literature and current research in an area I was most interested in. I loved being able to liaise with staff about my dissertation topic and had so much support from my dissertation supervisor.
I found myself facing many challenges while undertaking my dissertation, but loved it every step of the way, from making recruitment posters, getting to grips with university software, and finishing my dissertation.
I was able to connect with so many other students and get insight into what they were truly passionate about. Overall, the process of doing my dissertation from start to finish is an experience I feel proud of and will cherish in years to come.
How did your course support your future career?
My course has helped me massively with my career aspiration of wanting to become a CBT therapist, such as being able to choose the counselling and clinical psychology modules. These modules gave me a deeper insight into psychotherapy through the content and assignments that provided me with knowledge of different therapeutic modalities and the importance of ethical practice, which is essential knowledge for employment in my future career.
By engaging in seminar activities and assignments, I have gained a range of transferable skills throughout my degree, including emotional intelligence, time management, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking, which are becoming increasingly important for future employment.
As a result of the knowledge and skills that I have gained at Bath Spa University, I am now working with a local mental health charity supporting young people.
