Personal statement
Will works as a Programme Leader on both the Primary and Early Years Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and BA Primary Education (5-11) programmes; both courses lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Will's teaching focuses on Primary English and on the Teachers as Professionals strand, especially adaptive teaching and support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Will also contributes to the SEND Specialism on the PGCE course. Will's interests include approaches to supporting children who struggle to learn to read and write, including those with specific learning differences such as dyslexia.
Will is interested in the needs, support and experiences of trainee teachers with additional needs and disabilities. Will has completed a small-scale research project which investigated the experiences and identities of dyslexic trainee teachers. He worked on the design and implementation of School Access Plans which support Bath Spa Teachers access to reasonable adjustments during their school-based training.
