An Immersive Audio Network for practitioners, educators and enthusiasts.

Listening to industry and community needs, CCCI Co-Director Dr Ruth Farrar from Bath Spa University and MyWorld established an Immersive Audio Network for practitioners, educators and enthusiasts based in the West of England.

The Immersive Audio Network (IAN) provides training and consultation. We also host funded sound artist residencies and immersive audio events using our Mobile Immersive Audio Lab of 25 Genelec speakers and 3 subwoofers.

Training and consultation

The Immersive Audio Network provides bespoke training and consultation for organisations applying immersive audio to projects. We also offer a suite of short courses including our popular 'Introduction to Immersive Audio' weekend short course.

Our most recent iteration of this short course involved participants binaurally recording a Mbira performance and gaining expert advice from our Industry Guest Speaker Hans-Martin Buff who won 'Best Immersive Audio Album' at the Grammys in 2025.

Feedback from our short course participants:

  • “Inspiring on many levels”
  • “You pitched the short course just right. It was really informative, engaging and fun!”

Funded sound artist residencies

To champion sound artists working in immersive audio, the Immersive Audio Network hosts funded residencies. These annual residencies fund a Sound Artist-in-Residence to spend five days in Bath developing their practice in our Mobile Immersive Audio Lab of 25 Genelec speakers and 3 subwoofers followed by a public exhibition of their final work.

Previous recipients include Ximena Alarcón-Díaz and Ulf A. S. Holbrook who co-developed and exhibited 'Unravelling' at the Arnolfini in Bristol and Nikki Sheth's 'Visualising Nocturnal Soundscapes' project.
