Bath Social Impact Network celebrates new milestone

Monday, 6 October, 2025

Bath Social Impact Network (BSIN) has been going from strength to strength since its celebratory relaunch event in March this year, attended by some of the most prominent players in social change in the Southwest.

Reaching the extraordinary milestone of 300 members (a 34% increase since March), BSIN aims to bring together any businesses in Bath and Northeast Somerset (BaNES) that wish to have a positive social impact. It’s a collective of organisations working collaboratively to best address the needs and challenges raised by the network.

First launched in 2023 as a partnership between Bath Spa University and 3SG, BSIN is the first of its kind in BaNES and Bath Social Impact Network Manager from BSU, Lizzy Rees, says that this is “just the beginning of what could be a place shaping social movement.”

Talking about her experience so far building the Social Impact Network, Lizzy added:

“Something I'm regularly asked when discussing Bath Social Impact Network is – we’ve heard of you, but what do you actually do? six months into my role at Bath Spa University, I just about feel ready to embark on answering that question!

“I've dedicated over 70 hours of 1:2:1 contact time with our members; getting to know them, their organisation, what they are brilliant at and what’s challenging them the most. I’ve joined many networking events across BaNES; all of which have been a wonderful opportunity to understand what’s already available – I'm an absolute advocate for avoiding duplication.

“These are the conversations that are fuelling how BSIN is shaped for the future."

With six months since the relaunch, Lizzy is using the knowledge and insight gathered to shape the network into what the members need it to be most. She said:

“This project is backed by a phenomenal institution (BSU) that has the appetite, open-mindedness and expertise to influence social change across BaNES. I’ve almost been spoiled for choice with what Bath Social Impact Network could do, and now is the time to decide what we must do to best support our network and our wider BaNES communities.”

BSIN is delighted to be working with member and Bath resident, Deborah Hale MBE, to solidify our purpose, vision, mission and identity - this piece of work will be completed and published by the autumn.

Deborah said:

“I am delighted to be working with BSIN at this exciting stage of its development.  Investing time in clarifying not just what you are, but who you are here for and how you will be in the future provides an essential framework for future growth. I look forward to seeing how our work will deliver real outcomes for the membership.”

Lizzy added:

“Building BSIN’s identity is step one, generating positive, collective change is step two.“

If you haven’t come across BSIN yet,  join the next networking event on Wednesday 8 October and experience what it’s all about. Alongside time for networking, the ‘AI: Myths, Realities, and Opportunities for Your Organisation’ event is a  session with Andy Gray, Lecturer in Computing and Co-Program Lead for Computing at Bath Spa University, who will bust common myths, explain what AI really is and share practical ways it can support organisations; whether a charity, community group, or small business.
