Bath Spa University unveils new mock courtroom

Monday, 11 August, 2025

Bath Spa University recently opened an innovative new crime scene lab, and now LLB (Hons) Law students have the chance to practice their side of the story in a newly-opened mock courtroom at Newton Park campus.

The courtroom, sponsored by local solicitors Mogers Drewett, is a fantastic new facility that will be used for co-curricular activities such as mooting and mock trials. It will also be used for assessments and training, to prepare students and to give them the skills to work in the wider business community and to practice the law.

The courtroom was officially opened earlier in the year at an event which saw BSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Georgina Andrews and colleagues from sponsor Mogers Drewett observe while students made legal arguments before a judge.

Sean McDonough, Managing Partner of Mogers Drewett was highly impressed by the students' arguments and poise. He said:

“We are proud to partner with BSU’s Law course and support its mission to inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators, and legal professionals. We are deeply committed to our community, having been in the region for over 150 years and we believe this partnership will create valuable opportunities for students to connect with industry, gain practical insights, and develop the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive legal world.”

Steven Goulton, Course Director in Law at BSU said:

"The partnership between Bath Spa University and Mogers Drewett is a shining example of meaningful collaboration between academia and industry. Bringing together the University’s forward-thinking approach to legal education and Mogers Drewett’s deep-rooted expertise in law and business, this relationship provides tangible benefits to both students and the firm alike. It’s more than a partnership—it’s a shared investment in people, ideas, and the future of the professional world."

The mock courtroom will be available and in-use by new and returning Law students at BSU in the 2025/26 academic year.
