Our Old House: BSU's 2025 festive film celebrates student life throughout the decades

Monday, 1 December, 2025

Bath Spa University is proud to showcase its 2025 festive film, titled ‘Our Old House’.

The film is a celebration of BSU’s longevity and uniting impact throughout the years, showing the shared experiences of students studying in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.

Additionally, the film is a celebration of the talents and creativity of BSU students, staff and alumni, with over 20 cast and crew members making this a full in-house BSU production.

Following on from last year’s ‘Home from Home’ campaign, this year’s film showcases a singular student house – based in Bath – and all the different groups of friends that have lived there throughout the decades.

Featuring the city, Newton Park campus and many other iconic Bath locations, the film is designed to celebrate student life and culture, as well as the commonalities that unite everyone throughout the years.

Speaking about the project, Executive Producer and Writer – and BSU staff member and graduate - Matt Francis said:

“The story is all about community, togetherness and the shared experiences that unite us all.

BSU has been a huge part of my personal and professional life and I hope - within this film - that we showcase the different lived experiences that have shaped, and will continue to shape, the futures of so many.”

Matt is one of many members of staff involved in the project who also studied at BSU, showing the natural progression path and unique DNA that runs through the university’s community, something reflected in the film itself.

Niklas Aarre, Director and Editor of the film – and BSU Acting Alum – continued:

“Being able to capture the magic of being a BSU student has been both nostalgic of my time at the university but also joyous to showcase what being a BSU student, at whatever point in its history, is like.”

This year’s film has the special addition of a tailored song, written and produced by third year Acting and International Student Elisabeth “May” Basile. The song, titled ‘Our Old House’ features themes of community, togetherness and growth, with Eli taking inspiration from her time at BSU. The song will also be available to stream soon on Spotify.

Acting as a celebration and offering moments of nostalgia, this year’s film also welcomes the launch of an initiative that invites students, staff and alumni, from whichever generation, to share their stories – on social media and beyond.

As part of this, we’re encouraging all members of our staff and student community to reach out via social media and share their stories with us.

In many ways, the old house showcased is symbolic of the lasting impact that BSU has on its future, current and past students. This film is a celebration of that longevity and community, showing that this is a place where everyone is welcome.
