  • Explore expressive techniques in mixed media painting using wax, charcoal, gouache, and chalks.
  • Create your own vibrant floral artwork inspired by your own floral bouquet.
  • Learn how to build rhythm, contrast, and personal expression into your painting.

During this one-day mixed media Floral Painting workshop, you’ll explore expressive approaches to floral subjects using a range of artist-quality materials. Under the guidance of Natalie Bedford, Fine Art graduate and experienced tutor, you’ll begin with observational drawing techniques using wax, charcoal, and erasers to build dynamic marks and tonal contrasts.

You’ll then move into painting with gouache, learning how to apply colour theory to create rhythm, variety, and interest across your composition. The session will finish with the addition of soft chalks to bring depth and vibrancy to your final piece.

Floral Expressions is suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike and welcomes participants of all ages. It is structured enough to support you, but loose enough to encourage personal expression. By the end of the day, you’ll have created a unique floral painting to take home and be proud of.

Meet the team

Natalie Bedford is a fine artist working through mixed media to develop a distinctive and expressive visual language. Her practice spans drawing, painting, and experimental mark-making, with a particular focus on the human form—especially the female nude—and the emotional resonance of line, gesture, and material.

Natalie completed her MA in Fine Art at Bath Spa University in 2024. Alongside her figurative work, she is drawn to the beauty, structure, and character of flowers—their potential for abstraction, symbolism, and expressive interpretation.
