Born to Move, Taught to Sit: Unlocking human potential through physical literacy

About this lecture
This lecture challenges the modern educational paradigm that prioritises cognition to the detriment of embodied learning. It argues that while humans are evolutionarily designed for movement ('Born to Move'), current school and cultural systems condition children and adults into more sedentary lifestyles ('Taught to Sit'). The lecture positions Physical Literacy as a key concept in helping to reverse this trend and in unlocking human potential.
So come along and consider…
💡 How are we designed to move?
💡 What causes us to prioritise cognition over embodied learning?
💡 How can physical literacy help to rebalance the value placed on movement and physical activity?
The talk is free to attend, and will be followed by a drinks reception. Please contact Professor Liz Durden-Myers if you have any questions about the event.
