Graduate set to represent Jamaica at major international tournaments in Para Dressage
Wednesday, 16 April, 2025BSU Film, TV and Digital Production graduate Tegan Vincent-Cooke is a presenter, influencer and professional athlete who has been defying the odds and breaking boundaries all her life.
It’s Tegan’s most recent achievement, however, that may just take her to the pinnacle of the sport she loves, para-dressage.
Possessing a deep love for horses from an early age and competing in para dressage at a similar time, Tegan’s passion and dedication to the sport has been rewarded with a chance to represent Jamaica at international level.
Speaking about her love for horses, Tegan said:
“I got into horses aged four as an alternative form of physiotherapy that was recommended and I fell in love with it. I then got into dressage because at my riding school I was offered more lessons if I competed at Regionals and I’d do anything to ride more.”
With international representation now secured, Tegan’s journey to the 2026 World Equestrian Games in Germany begins, with her sights also set on the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Tegan’s selection to represent Jamaica is historic on many levels, with the BSU graduate becoming Jamaica’s first ever para-dressage rider. In a recent LinkedIn post announcing her achievement, Tegan reflected on the importance of giving back to a country that raised her in spirit.
Speaking about her pride in representing Jamaica, Tegan said to BSU:
“I’ve never really been patriotic but now the time’s here and I’m now representing Jamaica, it feels like an achievement beyond me. I always wanted to represent the underrepresented, I’m the first to make this path in my sport and I can’t wait, and I'm so proud to represent Jamaica.”
With the full support of her coaches, friends, family and everyone at BSU, Tegan’s journey to international success begins now and it’s her concluding words that echo the unity required to achieve at such a high level:
“We’re building something bold, and we know: it takes a village.”
