Student profile
Course studied: BA (Hons) Film and Screen Studies Media Communications
Graduating year: 2026
I chose to study a combined course because I really loved film studies at A-level, but I was also eager for a new challenge at University. Having always shown an interest in media, marketing and communications, I applied for a combined course at BSU.
After attending an Open Day and listening to the course talks from both subjects, I was sold on a combined honours pathway and the unique mixture of modules and courses that I felt only BSU could offer.
Not only do you have the opportunity to study two amazing subjects, but you are also able to meet lots of people from each course!
I found that a combined honours degree allowed for a lot of variation in my assignments, a factor I always appreciate as deadlines draw closer and I can switch between writing an essay in Film Studies and tackling a creative campaign in Media Communications.
I love being able to learn many different skills across my modules – something I think only a combined honours course can offer.
For example, in Media Communications, we were taught how to use the Adobe creative suite, and I am now extremely confident in using these independently, and even applied this skill to a film assignment in which we had to make a video essay that I created on Premiere Pro.
I absolutely love my combined honours course and couldn’t recommend taking one enough. I plan to use my combined course to pursue a future career path, potentially in film journalism or a marketing role.
