Celebrating Somerset - Gala performance

Friday 22 February, 2019
7:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Wells Cathedral

The High Sheriff of Somerset and Bath Spa University proudly present ‘Celebrating Somerset – Sumorsǣte ealle’: a free family festival, followed by a concert performance, to celebrate all things Somerset.

‘Sumorsǣte ealle’ – Old English for ‘all the people of Somerset’ – sees all the families of Somerset invited to round off the half-term holiday with a free fun-packed morning of procession, creative workshops, performances, and interactive activities themed around our vibrant, diverse and beautiful county, steeped in history and tradition.

Originally the idea of Somerset’s High Sheriff, Denis Burn, a creative production team of staff and students from Bath Spa University has devised, designed, and delivered this event.

Somerset at its best

Special guest performance by University Chancellor and Oscar-winning actor, Jeremy Irons.

Wells Cathedral will be the stunning backdrop for a specially-curated performance featuring music and song, contemporary and classical dance, storytelling and poetry, circus and theatre. This eclectic blend of performances will highlight the artistic quality and range to be found in Somerset, with the pinnacle being a special guest performance from Jeremy Irons.

Bringing together professionals, community groups and students the event will also feature: Bath Spa Ladies Choir, Knights of King Ina, Bolly Bhangra, Wells Cathedral School, Amanda Boyd, Crystal Spring, Ian Ross & Friends, Pocketfluff Productions, Shoebox Theatre, Wassail Theatre and more.
