Bath Spa host a celebration walk in honour of Capability Brown

Monday, 18 July, 2016

A special walk is being held at Bath Spa University’s Newton Park campus on the outskirts of Bath to celebrate the 300th anniversary of renowned landscape architect Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

The stunning grounds were landscaped by Brown in the 18th Century and feature a nature reserve, lake, woods, historic listed buildings and beautiful rolling fields.

The walk is part of an ongoing festival to celebrate the landscape designer’s birth. The festival is managed by the Landscape Institute, and has been the recipient of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The festival hopes to encourage a new generation to learn about Brown’s landscapes, helping them to appreciate the beauty of his hidden treasures.

Newton Park is Bath Spa University’s main campus and students and staff work amongst the stunning scenery which includes a castle turret, walled garden and temple on a lake.

The walk around Newton Park campus, near to the village of Newton St Loe, will take place on Sunday 24 July at 10:30am. This is a ticketed event and there are only a limited number of spaces available.

The organised tour will explore the rich natural, cultural and historical landscape.
