Bath Spa lecturer receives '2017 Outstanding Papers Award for Excellence'

Monday, 18 September, 2017

A Bath Spa University lecturer recently received praise for his role in co-writing an award-winning research paper.

Dr Mark Loon and his co-authors recently received a 2017 Outstanding Papers Award for Excellence for their article titled Combinative aspects of leadership style and emotional intelligence.

The study looks at emotional intelligence of leaders in the workplace, and moves beyond the assumption that leaders generally seek to avoid evoking negative emotions in their followers.

This is the first study to show that the emotional intelligence of leaders is related to their preferences for the manner in which they combine task and social leadership statements.

This study employed an innovative research design by describing a high-stress workplace in a vignette and asked participants to rank four styles of combining a task-oriented leadership.

The article has been downloaded 5969 times (at time of writing) since 2016.

Dr Mark Loon is faculty member of Bath Business School. He is the co-REF Champion, Higher Degree Tutor (Research) and Pathway Leader for Human Resources and Law.
