Once in a generation opportunity – your vote matters, don’t lose it

To register quickly, have your National Insurance number ready. If you don’t have your number call 0300 200 3502 or visit gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number.
If you’re unsure where you’ll be or can’t get to a polling station on Thursday 23 June, you can apply for a postal vote. Once registered you can apply for a postal vote by 5pm on Wednesday 8 June.
To help you make a decision Bath Spa University’s Students’ Union will host a symposium about the EU referendum on Thursday 26 May at 2:00pm at Komedia Bath, on Westgate Street, BA1 1EP.
There will be two speakers – for and against staying in the EU. Stand-up comedian, actor, and writer Eddie Izzard and Bath businessman, musician and songwriter, Tim Hegarty. Each speaker will put forward their views in a short speech before taking questions from the audience.
Christina Slade, Vice-Chancellor at Bath Spa University, said: “The economic policies and decisions made in the next month will affect your future. Our Bath Spa student community deserve to have a say and young people need to be heard.
“For the younger generation to have significant political influence they must turn out in greater numbers and you have a part to play in that.”
Bath Spa University’s Students’ Union President Elect, Kitty Hilton will Chair the event next Thursday.
Kitty said: “The EU referendum is the most important landmark in the UK calendar this year, and the outcome of the vote will affect your future.
“If you aren’t already registered then make sure you do it by the deadline of Thursday 7 June - it’s so easy and only takes a few minutes online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
“Voting is an important right and we have a duty to exercise this – make sure you register first so you don’t miss out on the right to have your say in the biggest decision of our lifetime.”
