Fashion student in final of prestigious competition

Thursday, 2 February, 2017

Huge congratulations to Sarah Carter, third year Fashion Design student at Bath Spa, who is a finalist in the Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) competition.

Over 120 students from 45 UK colleges and universities submitted entries, and Sarah is one of only 20 that were shortlisted.

The finalists from universities across the UK will showcase their European art-inspired designs at London Fashion Week in February, as they go head-to-head in the 2017 FAD x Missoni Competition Final.

The catwalk final will take place at Fashion Scout, held at Freemason’s Hall in Covent Garden on Monday 20 February.

This year students were challenged to ‘take the Missoni approach’, a way of thinking where creativity is rooted in culture. They took inspiration from European artists, creating designs that bring together culture, technology, form and function.

Prior to the show the finalists’ work will be judged by a panel of industry experts, who will select one overall winner and two runners-up. The 2017 jury panel will include Angela Missoni, Missoni Creative Director; Liz Griffiths, Head of Creative Textile Design and Design Research at Studio Missoni; Jane Shepherdson CBE, Fashion Entrepreneur; Jane Kellock, Unique Style Platform Founder and Creative Director; Clare Johnston, Professor Emeritus and Research Fellow at the RCA; and Holly Mirza, Director Fabric PR.

Now in its 16th year, the FAD Competition continues to challenge fashion students to think outside the commercial box; encouraging them to look to art, culture and wider social trends for inspiration.
