Catwalk success for Bath Spa Fashion Design students
Friday, 9 June, 2017Graduate Fashion Week, one of the world’s most important sources of new talent for the global design industry, has been a huge success for two Bath Spa University students.
Laura Gillings and Laura Capello, both studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design, have been chosen for awards that are aimed at propelling the careers of the UK's fashion talent into the mainstream market.
Laura Gillings has been awarded the Tu Scholarship, a one year paid placement with Tu Clothing for Sainsbury’s mentored by fashion designer, Henry Holland. Part of the placement will be to develop her collection to go into store.
For this award the judges looked for originality, creativity and individuality in the clothing collections, as well as commercial acumen, and Laura showed evidence of womenswear specific product design, had a strong trend and theme awareness, colour direction, print/graphics knowledge and fabric intent.
Meanwhile Laura Capello’s collection was awarded the George Catwalk to Store award. Her collection was seen as being developed to such a level that it could go directly into store. Laura scored highly on her design resolve and commerciality, market appeal and appropriateness of manufacture.
Bath Spa University’s Fashion Design course offers a comprehensive design education for dedicated and ambitious individuals looking for a specialist career in the fashion industry.
The course develops students as individuals to become innovative and creative designers with a design aesthetic relevant to the contemporary fashion industry.
Graduates of the course are employed in various roles within the fashion industry for brands such as Mulberry, Boudicca, French Connection, Bastyan, Karen Millen, Esprit and Erdem.
