Feature film wins at Royal Television Awards

Big congratulations to Robert Brown, Senior Lecturer in Film and Creative Production, whose feature film Sixteen won Best Film at this year’s Royal Television Society Regional Awards, in association with evolutions Bristol.

Sixteen was nominated for seven awards in total and also won the award for best editing.

Sixteen, written and directed by Rob, is about an African former child soldier who is now living in London and is forced to confront his violent past when he witnesses a stabbing.

A host of Bath Spa lecturers and students were involved with making the film, including three BA Creative Media Practice students, Jamie Harding, Theo Watkins and Emma Chandler.

Nic Jeune, former Director of Arts Work Media at Bath Spa and Jake Hume, guest lecturer in MA Feature Filmmaking were both producers of the movie.

The film was nominated in the following categories:

  • Film (best film in the region with theatrical release) : Sixteen
  • Cinematography : Justin Brown
  • Director : Rob Brown
  • On Screen Performance (based in West of England) : Rachael Stirling and Roger Jean Nsengiyumva
  • Editing : Barry Moen
  • Best Composer: John Bowen

Sixteen was up against BBC’s Sherlock and Poldark in the On Screen Performance, Editing, Cinematography and Director categories.

Robert said: “It was great to have the opportunity to thank Bath Spa University, Pinewood Studios, Arri and Films@59 in our acceptance speech for supporting the film and making it possible.”

The awards ceremony took place on Sunday 19 March at the Bristol Old Vic.
