Bath Spa University creates mindfulness films to de-stress prospective students

Tuesday, 15 May, 2018

Prospective students applying to Bath Spa University are being sent mindfulness films to help them de-stress and cope with potential exam pressure.

The videos – which are also available to current students and staff – are being sent to all applicants offering guidance on well-being and mindfulness, and have been created with local Bath company, YOGADOO.

Available on the University’s YouTube channel, each episode covers a different topic, including how to relax, concentrate, release tension and sleep better, with their release timed to coincide with national Mental Health Awareness Week (14-20 May).

Sara Gallagher, Head of Student Support at Bath Spa, said: “Helping students – even before they join us - to develop skills they can use to reduce stress is a real priority for us, and these easy to follow guides support that aim. We offer a wide range of support to students, including professional advice and guidance to ensure they get the most out of studying, and their student experience in general.”

As well as advising on the videos, YOGADOO is running a series of yoga sessions for the University’s Students’ Union, as part of its 'Stamp Out Stress Week'.

“Exam time is such a stressful period for students, whatever level of study they are at,” said Lucy Aston, Founder of YOGADOO, who work with over 50 schools across Bath and Bristol, delivering yoga and mindfulness sessions to children of all ages.

“We wanted to help those who have applied to Bath Spa develop techniques that will help them feel confident and in control as they approach their exams. The great thing about many mindfulness practices is that they are so simple and easy to do, and can really help in all sorts of different situations.”
