Textiles student wins Silk Bureau Design Competition
Friday, 9 March, 2018Congratulations to talented Bath Spa University student Sarah Wilkinson who has won the 2018 Silk Bureau Limited Student Design Competition.
Sarah who is studying for a BA (Hons) Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors, will have her winning fabric print manufactured onto silk by Silk Bureau Limited, the UK's leading digital fabric printing company.
Her flower print combines alliums, dandellions and butterfly wings into a stunning design, and was praised by judges for its intricate layered detailing and bold use of colour.
Sarah said: "When I heard about the competition, I was very excited to enter. The fact that it was for a fashion print and there were no restrictions within the brief as to how the final print looked meant that I could let my creativity run wild. I enjoyed developing a design that expressed my style and I'm thrilled to have won.
"I was inspired by a visit to the Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show at Hampton Court and from walking across the Somerset levels. I found the contrast between the transparent part of the flower and the seeded head beautiful so I decided to combine the alliums and the effect of the dandellions transparency into my print."
