Bath Spa open day gives people the chance to test their teaching skills
Wednesday, 9 May, 2018What do robots, virtual reality avatar children and an English murder mystery have in common? Well for prospective teachers and their families, more than you might think.
They will all be part of an interactive open day at Bath Spa University’s Institute for Education on Saturday 12 May, aimed at anyone wanting to find out more about a career in teaching.
On show will be the University’s new humanoid robots, giving people a taste of what teaching in the modern age might look like.
People will also have the chance to have a go at teaching a virtual reality classroom – Bath Spa has the only one in the UK - or find out how forensic science skills can be taught to children by having them play at being detectives, solving a series of crimes.
The one-day event, taking place at the University’s beautiful Newton Park campus, will be jam-packed with workshops, activities, stands and talks, all helping attendees and their families find out everything they need to know about a career in teaching - from hints and tips on application processes to the innovative ways the University is training the next generation of teachers.
Kate Reynolds, Professor and Executive Dean of Bath Spa’s Institute for Education, said: “Our teacher training taster day is a great opportunity for potential teachers and their families to get stuck in and discover if a teaching career is for them.
“The event is aimed at people of all ages who think they could carve out a successful career in teaching, whether they are just finishing their studies, want a change of career, or are thinking about moving back into the teaching profession.”
This year, Bath Spa University is offering a £500 scholarship to all trainee teachers accepting a place in September. Expert academic tutors, current students and support staff will be on hand throughout the day to discuss the scholarship and other funding options available.
