Viva Mexico: Bath Business School students go global
Wednesday, 17 April, 2019A group of Bath Business School students recently visited Mexico to explore life, culture and business in this exciting and dynamic country. The visit was organised with the support of the Universidad Iberoamericana campus León as part of its Business School studies.
Our students were involved in social innovation schemes intended to support poorer communities in rural areas. Alongside Mexican students, they visited the community of La Tinaja in Guanajuato and explored projects designed to overcome a range of social and environmental problems including water shortages and pollution, unemployment and outward migration.
The students also had a packed itinerary that involved visits to the Chichimeca pyramid ruins at Peralta, the Corralejo tequila Hacienda, the amazing Caborca cowboy boot factory and the beautiful World Heritage City of Guanajuato. They even had the opportunity to dance Rumba Cubana and salsa during a rumba night!
Lily Smith, second year BA Business and Management student said: “While working within the local community I felt part of a project that truly has meaning and I loved being a part of something that has directly benefited the people so far. I can’t wait to hear more about the impacts of the water filtering project and go back to the community to volunteer one summer’.
Back in Bath, the students are hoping to continue supporting the community in La Tinaja, exploring ways to generate resources for children's projects.
