Bath Spa University Students’ Union wins national diversity award
Wednesday, 30 January, 2019Bath Spa University Students' Union has been awarded "UK Student Union of the Year 2019" for the third consecutive year by the National Centre for Diversity (NCFD) at their annual Grand Awards.
The National Centre for Diversity aims to advance fairness for all by helping organisations to embed principles of Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE) across their organisation.
Students’ Union President, Ryan Lucas, said: "We were incredibly proud to achieve this award for the third year. It is testament to the hard work of all our staff, volunteers and students, and demonstrates our continuing commitment to advancing fairness and equality"
The award is based on a rigorous diagnostic framework that looks at the policies and practices the organisation has in place, its culture and how this impacts its members, staff and partners. This forms part of the NCFD Investors in Diversity accreditation scheme.
The Union has a strong ethos of respect and fairness in the workplace, with this commitment running through its HR practices. It supports students to raise awareness of issues and provide peer support networks for under-represented groups. Recent work has looked to address the BAME attainment gap and experience of Black students, and raise awareness around mental health.
The Students' Union has been accredited since 2013, achieving the higher Leaders in Diversity award level in 2017 and has appeared in the NCFD Top 100 organisations across the UK for the last four years.
