Graduate's historical novel success

Wednesday, 15 April, 2020

A "powerful" new historical novel by Bath Spa University alumna Beatrice Hitchman has been acquired by Serpent’s Tail.

All of You Every Single One, which begins in 1911 and spans four decades, follows Julia, who leaves her husband to start a new life with Eve in Vienna. The love story is set for publication in 2021, and was written by Bea as part of her PhD in Creative Writing at Bath Spa.

Bea says:

"This novel would not be in existence without the support I received from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), and from my supervisors, Tracy and Tasha. Writers are only as good as the people they write for, and they were the perfect readers: engaged, encouraging and generous with their time, and without them, I wouldn’t have this book. I’m so excited about being able to share what we worked on as a team with the wider world."

Tracy Brain, who is Course Director of the PhD in Creative Writing programme, says:

"It was a huge privilege to work with Bea as her Director of Studies, and with Dr Natasha Alden from the University of Aberystwyth. It was a joy to see Bea's beautiful novel unfold, and to talk with her and Tasha about the writing and research as the chapters came one after another. I'm thrilled for Bea that 'All of You Every Single One' will have the audience it deserves."

Bea's previous novel Petite Mort was shortlisted for the Polari Prize and the Historical Writers’ Association Debut Novel Prize.
