Bath Spa University appoints two new governors

Bath Spa University has appointed Dr Jacqui Brasted and Mr Nick Sturge to its Board of Governors. Jacqui begins her tenure on 1 June and Nick on 1 September, both for a period of three years.

Jacqui Brasted is an independent higher education consultant with particular expertise in policy, regulation and governance. She worked for KPMG before moving to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and its successor body, the Office for Students (OfS), where she worked for eleven years before establishing an independent HE consultancy business. Having held a number of senior positions at the OfS, including Head of Regulatory Implementation and Head of Financial Assessment, Jacqui played a leading role in the development and implementation of the regulatory framework for higher education in England.

Nick Sturge was co-founder and director of Motion Media PLC, and is now the proprietor of a consulting business ‘Omnigenix’ and non-executive Chair of software business Helastel Ltd. He also provides consultancy support to the West of England Combined Authority and Cheltenham Borough Council. Nick was co-founder and director of the Engine Shed in Bristol and formerly the Bristol director of SETsquared (the business incubator and enterprise partnership between five research-intensive universities). In 2019 he was awarded an MBE for services to the digital economy, and named ‘South West Business Leader of the Year’.

Chair of the Board of Governors, Terence Jagger said: “I am delighted Jacqui and Nick are joining the board - they both bring a wealth of skills and experience which will be immensely valuable to the University, and I look forward to working with them both. Jacqui and Nick will help the board build on our recent progress as an institution, including exciting developments in the curriculum and the opening of the stunning new arts campus in Locksbrook Road”.

The Board of Governors of Bath Spa University is responsible for the oversight of the conduct of the affairs of the University and for ensuring that the University builds on its successes to date and achieves its strategic objectives.
